The weather is gorgeous here today! In fact the forecast shows it will be in the upper 70's and low 80's for the next whole week! I am absolutely loving it and I am definitely in a springy mood today. I'm just so excited about the warm weather and ready to bust out my warm weather clothes that have been put away for way to long :) I can't wait to get out and plant a beautiful flower garden and I'm especially excited to do some springtime shopping on Friday.
Now in no way do I consider myself a "fashionista" but one thing is for sure... I love shopping and I love clothes; so below I pieced together a little mood board of things I am loving for spring (short printed skirts, bright nail polish, spring scarves, jumpers, sandals, and on and on). Anyone else excited for spring??
Who wants a treat?

Everyday when I get home from work, I let the dogs in and give them the ultimate treat... a rawhide! They seriously love these things. I've mentioned before that Badger always plays with his treats before he starts chewing on it... Well today I grabbed my camera to catch it on film! After loading the video on the computer, I added a cheesy dance song to the background and it made Jake and I hysterical with laughter. My sweet little 50 lb. puppy is just the cutest thing ever! See for yourself...
Feels like Tuesday.

First of all, THANK YOU everyone for the encouraging comments and emails regarding my braces situation. I actually feel so much better about it now that it's out there for all to know. Now it's Monday and I'm oddly happy for a Monday. I think it's because I know this week is a four day work week for me (yessss!) and on Friday I am treating myself to a day of spring shopping. I can totally get through four days of work if there's shopping involved at the end of it :) The bummer of it all is that this upcoming weekend was supposed to be Jake's little birthday getaway that was canceled. Oh and remember how we were just going to move it to memorial day weekend? Well thats a no-go... everything was booked solid so unfortunately the trip has been canceled altogether. Looks like we'll be waiting until after graduation for a vacation together... Oh well, August will be here before we know it and in the meantime I am planning on taking a trip back to the west coast to see my family!
This weekend was a lot of fun, after I got over my little food poisoning incident that is. Saturday was a lazy day overall... slept in, caught up on my DVR shows, took the dogs to the park. It was so nice and the weather was absolutely beautiful! We planted a ton of grass seed in our backyard in a hopeful attempt that it might make our yard somewhat decent looking. Fingers crossed! Anyways, that night, Jake and I had our dinner-movie date night and had so much fun. It's not often that we get to go out just the two of us... usually we are with other couples or with his class. We went to Mexican food and then went to see the movie She's Out of My League. It was a pretty funny movie, but definitely brainless and predictable. I enjoyed it though; sometimes I need a little predictability in my life :) After the movies we weren't quite ready to head home so what did we do at 10:30 at night? Headed over to Walmart to walk around and look at stuff. It's okay if you're laughing... we are SO Mississippi now! haha! We really do enjoy walking around and looking at stuff and people watching. But yes, I do realize that its totally lame that most of our date nights end with Walmart browsing. Oh how I miss Target!
Changing the subject, last Thursday night I went to my first book club meeting here on base and had a great time. If you remember, we chose to read My Sister's Keeper during the month of March. The book was really intriguing and I actually ended up reading most of it in one afternoon. Everyone told me that I would cry at the end of the book, but call my cold-hearted, I didn't shed a tear. Don't get me wrong, it was very sad but I guess I have a hard time crying over characters that aren't real... at least in books. Anyways, the book turned out to be great for discussion being that the topic is somewhat controversial. We talked for hours and hours... I actually had to leave early because it was getting so late and I had to get up for work the next day! The book we chose to read next is Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. I'm excited to read this book because it's a nonfiction memoir of the author's travels through Italy, India, and Indonesia... sounds interesting right?? The book is actually being made into a movie that is coming out this summer starring Julia Roberts so that will be fun to see. For our next book club meeting at the end of April, we decided to make it a dinner and have everyone bring a different cultural food dish inspired from the book... how fun is that?! I love this whole book club thing. The other women are so much fun and its giving me an extra reason to read some great books, most of which I've wanted to read for some time now.
And the best news for last... T-minus three days until Jake says goodbye to Mr. Mustache! I have been a good wife in putting up with the Mustache March tradition but it's time for that thing to GO! Here's a little reminder of what I've been living with (although this picture was taken weeks ago so now the statche has grown completely over his upper lip)...

Any chance I can get a 3rd opinion?
- - - - Saturday, March 27, 2010 - - - -
Sorry I have been MIA for the past few days. Thursday morning I found out some not-so-fun news, nothing life-threatening or anything but just not fun (more on that in a minute) and then early Friday morning I woke up in a cold-sweat, shaking and throwing up, feeling so sick. I thought for sure I had gotten the flu but now it looks like I may have gotten food poisoning. Friday I went to work, feeling okay but very tired and weak. Thankfully, my boss told me that I could take my work home for the day and just take it easy, so that's exactly what I did. I really think I must have just ate something bad because by late afternoon yesterday I was feeling almost back to normal. And good thing too because hubby promised me a dinner-movie date night tonight and I've been looking forward to it all week!
So now for the bad news. It really is only bad news for me. Seriously, I'm sure no one else cares... but I guarantee if it were you, you would care. Well, I'll just say it. I have to get braces. Again. Ugh! Yes that is why I gave Ugly Betty as my hint, because when I think of an adult with braces, Ugly Betty's metal mouth smile flashes into my mind. You're probably thinking "But Lindsay your teeth are straight!" Well yes, yes they are. Unfortunately that's not the problem. It's a long story... if you care to read it, here it goes...
Way back in October I went to the dentist for just a normal teeth cleaning and checkup. Like a good military spouse (always overly prepared) I brought along my dental history and past x-rays from my dentist in California. After looking at my teeth and comparing x-rays, the dentist started asking me questions like "Do you get bad migranes? Do you wake up with a locked jaw? Do you have any neck or back pain?" All my answers were no, which seemed surprising to him. He told me that he was referring me to an orthodontist in town for a check-up because he was concerned about my "deep bite". Hesitantly, I went and saw the ortho guy and after lots of poking and proding around in my mouth and many more questions he finally told me what all this was about. He said that I have a type of deep overbite that is most likely genetic and gets increasingly worse and more severe with age, hence why the problem was not fixed when I was 12 and had braces... the problem had not shown up yet. He then said that most likely this problem will lead to severe head, neck and back pain in the future, not to mention that cosmetically my smile will continue to become more and more narrow, forcing all my teeth to crowd and begin to stick out. WHHAATT? I've always thought I had a fine smile. I've noticed lately that I had a little overbite but nothing worse than most people! He said I needed braces and a series of special retainers to correct the problem. I told him NO, not gonna happen. He said I had some time to think about it because I needed to get my wisdom teeth out before he could do anything anyways.
I did not tell anyone about this because I was convinced that this was not going to happen. But Jake was nervous about what the dentist had told me and thought we should get a second opinion. Jake thought that if it was, in fact, that bad then I really had no choice but to get the braces. He said I might as well get it over with now and save myself a lot of pain and frustration years down the road. Thursday morning was my second opinion appointment with a different orthodontist here in town. I was hoping he would tell me it was not that bad... turns out, he thought it was even worse and probably had gotten worse just since October! He told me a bunch of doctor terms and mumbo-jumbo but one specific part I do remember is him saying that most people's bite should be about 20-30%... mine was at 90%! Again, WHHAATT? Oh goodness. Apparently I really do need to fix this.
I started asking what seemed like a million questions... Do I have to get the metal braces? How long will all this take to fix? What happens if we move in 5 months? So. Many. Questions. As far as the type of braces, I will be getting ceramic braces on my top teeth (thank goodness!) These braces have brackets that are tooth colored, and while the wire is still metal, the braces are much less noticeable... especially in pictures. He says that most adult patients opt for this type. Unfortunately I will still have to get metal brackets on my bottom teeth... something about my overbite putting too much pressure on the ceramic brackets causing them to damage my teeth. After hearing all this I was practically crying by the time I asked him "How long?" To my surprise he said there should be no reason that this cannot be fixed in just a year. I guess I was a bit relieved... one year is not so bad. In reality, that means the braces would be gone by next summer... that's not so bad right? Anyway I look at it now, this IS going to happen and I am going to have to just get used the idea. I go in for impressions on April 19th and on May 10th... it's go time. Braces on. Me looking like I'm in Junior High again.
See why I had a bad day? It's kind of ridiculous actually because I mean who really cares?! Do you care if I have braces? No. It's just me and self-image issues. The only person that might care would be Jake and he's the one telling me to get them! He genuinely does not care if I have braces which just blows my mind. I guess I just need to embrace the fact that this has to be done, try to be confident about it, and remind myself that a year from now it will all be worth it and just about done. Things could be so much worse and I just need to be thankful. Encouragement please!!

No fun blog post today. Not such a fun day for me at all actually. I'll fill you in on the awful details tomorrow or this weekend. Oh you say you want a hint now? Ugly Betty. That's all I'm saying. Anyways, tonight it's book club time with Ann & the girls so hopefully that will make my day a little bit better. Dessert + wine + hours of good conversation... can't go wrong there right? Well, here's hoping you're Thursday has been much better than mine so far...
Happy Birthday Neezer!

March is definitely the month of birthdays for my family. I've written posts celebrating Seth, Jake, and my dad, and today is another very special day... my step-mom Denise's birthday! Denise has played a major role in my life for 10 years now and has been such a blessing to me and to our family. She is so genuinely kind and free-spirited and beautiful, and can always see the good in things. On this day, I am so thankful that she was born!
I love you Neezer... Hope you have a wonderful day!!
Its all about perspective.

Even though I'm grown and married and living far, far away from home, the first person I call when I'm having an awful day is still my mom. There's just something about a mom. They always seem to know what to say and exactly how to take care of you. I bring this up because one day last week I had a break down; one of the those days where the world was against me and everything was all wrong. Jake was swamped with everything UPT related and I didn't really have anyone else out here to just sit and cry to. So what did I do? I called my mom and just let it all out. Even being thousands of miles away, she snapped into "super-mom mode" and began spewing out genuine words of wisdom, making me laugh and putting all my problems into perspective. I realized that no matter how bad I thought my day was, it could have been so much worse. I really am so blessed and I have so much to be thankful for! Yesterday, I got this card [below] in the mail from my mom and I thought it was hilarious... A bad day is totally all about perspective.
Wonderful.

Today was perfect. I slept late and woke up to a beautiful sun-shiny Saturday. I wandered downstairs where Jake greeted me with a kiss and some yummy coffee, and then left me be to sit on the porch for hours and read my book (still in my pjs of course). Yes, this morning I had one of those moments where I thought to myself "it doesn't get much better than this"... Thank you Lord for today, a time of relaxation that I soo desperately needed after a long week.

UPT: Phase 3
- - - - Thursday, March 18, 2010 - - - -
Today is a very exciting day! It's Jake's first flight in his new plane, the T-1 Jayhawk you see below. Since his track select last month, Jake's class has been in the academics portion of UPT Phase 3, studying the ins and outs of their new plane and being given challenging tests multiple times a week. They've had numerous simulators to practice flying this aircraft but today is the real deal!
Let me tell you about the T-1, which is very different from the T-6 that Jake flew in Phase 2. The T-1 is a medium-range, twin-engine jet trainer that prepares students to fly a cargo or tanker aircraft after graduation. In this plane, Jake will not have to wear a G-suit or helmet, nor will he ever fly solo (there are always two student pilots and an instructor). It is a much bigger, more powerful plane and with that comes a lot of new responsibility on the pilots part! I'm so proud to see first-hand all that Jake is accomplishing in this very challenging program. Phase 3 is well underway and graduation is in less than 5 months!!

I just found out some very bad news. Remember how I just told you yesterday about my awesome vacation with Jake coming up? Well it turns out that the UPT guys do not get Good Friday off as a holiday. Apparently some bases do take it off but it's at the discretion of the commander, and our base, being a training base, is only guaranteed federal holidays off. I just figured that because schools are out and I am off work (and my work never takes off little holidays) that Jake would be off too. I suppose there's a chance he could be out early that day and we could leave then but would that even be worth it? I'm not sure. I'll have to talk to Jake about it some more tonight and figure out a new plan. I'm so upset and irritated and embarrassed right now. Great job on the birthday present Lindsay... Next time do a little more research...
Happy Birthday Dad!
Dad, I hope your day today is relaxing and fun and perfect. Wish I could be there to celebrate with you! I love you!
Vacation for two.
- - - - Monday, March 15, 2010 - - - -
I'm so excited to tell you all about Jake's birthday present. If you didn't guess by the title, we are going on a trip! Ever since Jake's cross-country weekend trip got canceled a few months ago, I've been trying to plan another way for him to get out of Columbus for a few days. He literally has not left Mississippi since June... ridiculous! And also because of pilot training, Jake and I have not been on a trip together since our honeymoon almost 2 years ago! Again, ridiculous.
So, over the 3-day weekend at Easter, we are packing up the car and heading down south to Pensacola, Florida where we'll be enjoying the long weekend at a gorgeous hotel right on the beach! I've been planning this surprise for a while and I was so excited to finally be able to let Jake in on the trip plans. I was so happy to see the genuine excitement in his face when I told him. This trip is going to be so wonderful! Hopefully it will give Jake the boost he needs to finish out these last difficult months of pilot training!
P.S. I feel as if I have neglecting my blog a bit lately with all these short posts I've been writing. Truth is, I'm currently working on 3 new blog designs and also trying to get all my stuff in line to start school next month. I am busy busy busy and I can't wait to fill you in on all the little details!

Birthday party.
- - - - Saturday, March 13, 2010 - - - -
Yes, that is Jake. With a sombrero. And a mustache. A once in a lifetime photo op, that's for sure! Want to hear about his birthday party? Let me tell you. It was a so much fun!
Last week I sent out an email to Jake's class telling them that I wanted to have a party for Jake and that everyone was invited. We would start with dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant and then head back to our house afterwards to hang out. I figured maybe 10 out of the 30+ people would actually be able to come but was happily surprised when everyone showed up at the restaurant! It was awesome! And it was hilarious to sit at a huge table with more than 20 "mustached" men, although most of their staches aren't anywhere near as prominent as Jake's (I know, lucky me). After dinner, everyone headed over to our house and continued to have a great time. It was really fun to see all the guys out of their usual "study mode" and able to let loose for one night.
I'm so happy that Jake's party was a total success! In fact, out of the 5 birthdays I've celebrated with him, I think we both agree that this one was by far the best. Oh and I still have to tell you about his birthday present from me, but unfortunately that story will have to wait for another day because right now I'm going to get back to enjoying my weekend. Plus, movie night at the Pruitt house is just about to get started!!
For my husband...

Happy birthday Jake! Today is going to be a great day! I just wanted to say that I am so thankful you were born 24 years ago and that you grew up to pick me to be your wife. I am so lucky to have you and not a day goes by that I don't realize that. Here's to many, many more birthdays by your side. I love you!
Oh happy day!

Breaking news: I just got an email from my friend Patty saying that the AF spouse financial aid program (that was suspended) will be reinstated this Saturday for those who have already created accounts. Well I did some investigating and guess what? That includes me!!! Looks like I'll be starting school again after all :) Thanks for your thoughts and prayers everyone... I'm so excited!
Miscellaneous updates.
It's been over a month since I updated you on all the little details of our life out here in Mississippi. Last time, I basically spewed out a ton of random information and posted a random picture... I think I'll do the same today. I'll start by saying that I seem to be on overload lately, and by lately I mean the last four days I've been back from vacation. Yesterday I almost had a meltdown at work. Thankfully I was able to hold it in until I got home, where I crashed on the couch for just about the entire night. Today at work is much better, however I have a ton of things to do after work to get ready for Jake's birthday and his party at our house tomorrow night... but I don't mind that kind of busy!
I have to say that it's hard for me to complain about being busy or stressed when I come home and hear about Jake's day. Not only does he have a stressful day every single day but he doesn't ever get to come home and just lay on the couch... there is always something to be studying. And now that he's in Phase 3 of UPT I think he is working himself even harder knowing that how he does in this phase will determine his entire career and our next assignment. So I let him overwork. I let him stress. I don't complain about the fact that I rarely get to see him. I just keep thinking that this will all be over in a few months and life can finally be somewhat normal again. In the meantime, please pray for Jake's endurance through the rest of training, and for all the guys in his class. They have all been working challenging 12 hour days + too many weekends for over 7 months now and I know it's wearing on each and every one of them. Hopefully they can all let loose at our party tomorrow and have a good time!
Changing the subject now. School is still on hold for me. This has been really bumming me out because I was planning to start again in just 3 weeks. I hope everything will work itself out quickly but for now, I have no new updates on that. On the other hand, I'm very thankful for the people who have contacted me about designing their blogs. Since at this time I can't do websites, blog design has been a good creative outlet for me. I'm finishing a design this week that I'm really excited about. It's totally different then anything I've done in the past! I'll post the details soon.
Ok let's talk now about the weather now. I think Mississippi is finally stepping into spring. It's been in the 70's lately! And with that warm weather, we have been having some crazy thunderstorms. I've never seen storms like the ones we have out here. Maybe I should video one of them so you all can see that I'm not exaggerating! Next week looks like it will be beautiful sunny weather though and I'm so excited. I think it's finally time to get out and start working in the yard!
Well since we ended with weather talk, how about some crazy weather pictures? I took this picture below on my phone while driving through Texas this past summer with my dad and my sister. I love it! I remember driving through a dark black cloud for an hour and then all of a sudden coming out into this beautiful sunny day...
I look at these and wonder how anyone could not believe in God. His beauty and power are everywhere!

Today is a very special day. My little brother Seth turns 7 years old!! I really can't believe he is already 7. He's definitely the coolest first grader I know and I miss him every single day that I'm away from California. I hope you have an awesome birthday Peanut! I love you so much!
P.S. Speaking of birthdays... Jake turns 24 on Friday! I've been very sneaky this year working on his present and I'm really excited about it :)

Bahama love ♥ Part 2
Picture time! Here are the pictures that go with the stories from yesterday's Part 1. Surprisingly, Tori and I didn't take that many pictures, compared to the hundreds we usually take when we go on trips! I guess we were just having too much fun to stop and take pictures, but here are the highlights...
Bahama love ♥ Part 1
- - - - Monday, March 8, 2010 - - - -
Well I am back from an amazing cruise to the Bahamas! Although, my body still seems to think I'm on a boat because as I write this I feel as if I'm rocking back and forth. I've decided to make this a 2-part post because I haven't uploaded any pictures yet and probably will not get a chance to until tonight or tomorrow. So in Part 1 I'll give the overall rundown of my trip and then give a long picture post in Part 2. Sound good?
Okay now, where to start? How 'bout with the travel specifics since I have yet to even mention where I went... Tori and I went on a 3-night Carnival cruise to Nassau in the Bahamas. On Wednesday, I drove down to Jackson, MS where I caught a plane to Orlando to meet up with Tor who was flying in from Denver (And I had quite the adventure just getting to Orlando, but I'll write another blog about that later). Anyways, Tori's dad actually lives in Orlando so we stayed the night with him and then left on Thursday morning to board the cruise ship at Port Canaveral. We decided to board early, with swimsuits already on, so that we could enjoy the entire day by the pool before the cruise even left port. That was a great idea by the way!
I'm not a first time cruiser (I've been on 3 actually) but this was the first time where I was responsible for figuring out all the details myself opposed to traveling with my family. Also, the last time I went I was only 17 years old so I was not able to go to any of the fun 21 and older events at night on the cruise. Not that I'm a huge drinker or gambler or anything but more so because all the good shows and dance clubs are age restricted on the boat. And I have to say, and I'm saddened to admit this, but I was carded trying to get into an 18 and older dance club... Apparently I still look 17? Thanks Mr. Security Guard.
During the days of the cruise, we basically laid on a beach chair in the sun allll day long. Swimsuit on, headphones in, a good book and a few magazines... Yes, it was wonderful! We also took advantage of the very yummy unlimited amounts of free food available on deck. Don't worry though, I think I more than worked off the excessive amount of junk food I ate by dancing for hours and hours every night.
That brings me to our nights on board. We did lots of things, but mostly, we danced! Anyone that knows Tori and I knows that dancing is what we do and, wow, we had an awesome time. Other than dancing we enjoyed the cruise shows, karaoke, comedy shows, casino, and on and on... I actually had never been to a casino since being of age to gamble and wanted to see what it was like. Not being one to want to gamble away my hard-earned cash, I put forth a whopping $10 to gamble with and said that once it was gone I was done. So I headed over to the penny slots (I know, I'm a wild one...) and lost just about all of my $10 on one machine. But then, with $1 left I started winning! and then winning some more! And I walked out with $55! Now that may not seem like a lot to people who gamble often but to me I was proud to have more than quadrupled my money on nothing more than some penny slots.
On Friday, our ship docked at port in Nassau. The weather was warm, the water was crystal clear turquoise... it was a beautiful day! We actually booked a catamaran snorkeling excursion prior to our trip but sadly it got canceled, so we decided to just explore the island. After shopping for a while and enjoying some time at the beach, we ended up having most of our off-boat adventures at Senor Frog's. We had heard it was a fun place to go and it really was! I think that restaurant is a party 24 hours a day. It was very entertaining and we met some crazy characters there! Oh and that brings me to my next subject...

It's vacation time! I'm leaving today to enjoy five wonderful days in the sun with my best friend Tori. I've been looking forward to this trip for months and it could not come at a better time - I am getting totally burnt out on life right now. Anyways, for the next few days I will happily be away from my phone, email, facebook, blog and any other bit of technology that runs my daily life. I'm excited to take some time to relax, rejuvenate, and thoroughly enjoy life. Hope you all have a fabulous rest of the week... I'll be back Monday to share all the details of my trip!

Work has been so slow lately. Apparently, the first couple months of the year are always slow at my job, and this year things have been even slower because of the economy. I started working here at the end of March last year right when things were picking up so I didn't experience the slow period that we are in now. This year, we decided to send out a mass email in the form of a cartoon just to remind our clients that we are here, and maybe even gain us some new clients. We thought this was a fun and creative way to reach out to past, present, and future clients without bombarding them with a typical newsletter overstuffed with needless information. The response to the cartoon has been great so far and I think we are going to start sending them out monthly. Imagine that... a monthly mass email that people look forward to getting! The cartoons are designed by our main graphic designer, who also did our Christmas cards back in December. Here's the one we sent out last week...
Mustache March.

Can you believe it's March? Wow. Time is flying by! Spring is almost here and I am so very excited. Last year, March was the month when the weather began to warm up and everything around base started to become beautiful and green again.
Oh and want to know what else happens on base during the month of March? Nasty little caterpillars start to grow on the upper lips of all the pilots. That's right, folks, Columbus AFB upholds the "Mustache March" tradition where all the men don't shave their mustaches for the entire month. It's actually a pretty hilarious sight to see every guy walking around base with a ton of facial hair (which is obviously not the norm on a military base). Most of the guys in Jake's class started doing this last week (Why?? I don't know...) and many of them already have a good "stache" growing in... one of them being my husband. I love him to death but the mustache is a pretty greasy look on him. I keep calling him Geraldo. Hahaha! Some of the wives freak out about their husbands participating but I don't really care. It's just a funny tradition and the guys seem to have a good time with it; although I'm not gonna lie, April 1st will be a wonderful day!
Since Jake wouldn't let me snap a picture of his new statche, I found another picture that fits the subject... The picture below was actually taken the night before I left California and moved to Mississippi. My friends will probably kill me for posting this on my blog but it was just too perfect! Yes, we are crazy. And I love it :) I miss you guys sooo much!! Anyways, happy March everyone!
PS... Is anyone else super excited for the Bachelor finale tonight? Wooooo!
