UPT: Phase 2

Right now, UPT (Undergraduate Pilot Training) is a huge part of our lives...well, for Jake it pretty much absorbs his entire life. Jake is currently in Phase 2 of training and is a little over two months into the program (Phase 2 will end in February when he track selects into a new plane). During his 12 hour days, he goes to classes, practices in the flight sims, studies, and takes tests; oh yeah, did I mention that he flies planes too? He actually flies most days of the week now. When he comes home for the day, we have a little bit of time to catch up with eachother and then he is back to studying and flight planning for the next day.

In this phase of training, Jake is flying the T-6 (shown above). This plane is a single-engined turboprop and is very powerful. In training, the student pilot sits in the front seat of the plane and the instructor sits in the back. Jake seems to really enjoy flying it so far but it sure does take a lot out of him! It's unbelievable what kind of pressure he is under every single day.

It's also amazing to see all the prep work that goes into each flight; hours of studying, planning, and briefing. Even gearing up for the flight takes quite a bit of effort! Jake showed me all the steps that he does like putting on his G-suit, harness, and helmet (which includes an oxygen mask). All I can say is... I am so proud of my pilot!

You sound so smart! Knowing all the ins and outs of pilots. You know all the terms and stuff. You're a great wife :) That T-6 looks awesome. What's the progress on the decision for which plane he wants? Call me sometime :) miss youuuu

Thanks for reading all my posts Jacs! Jake is still not sure on the plane he wants (not that we get a choice in picking) but he has decided that he definitely doesn't want fighters. This means that most likely in February he will start flying the T-1 which is kind of similar to a commercial airplane. I'll keep ya posted :)
