Today after work I am heading out to Tuscaloosa to do some Christmas decoration shopping with my friend Ann. As I sit here listening to the Michael Buble holiday station on Pandora radio, sipping my coffee, I am brainstorming about how exactly I want to decorate.
Being that this is our first Christmas to decorate (considering last year we were in the process of moving and living out of a hotel), we are starting from scratch in the area of holiday decor. Our families have given us bits and pieces to start us off, but we are far from the winter wonderland I see in our living room.
We have saved up money for this, knowing that we need to buy just about everything, but I've also been looking for crafty ideas to make some of my own decorations and save a few bucks. The thing that has inspired my creative juices most so far is pine cones. There are so many easy holiday crafts that can be done with pinecones and the Mississippi woods are full of them!
For our Christmas tree, I am envisioning simple classic white lights with cream and gold ornaments. Then I want to add some pinecone ornaments and throw some strings of red berries for a pop of color. Jake and I are still debating on what our tree topper will be.

Linds! Great ideas! I love the idea of your Christmas tree. I laughed when you said but we are far from the winter wonderland I see in the living room. That is SO you. I love it :) Can't wait to see pictures of it! Lovin the pine cone theme. These are great ideas and you're crafty enough to do them unlike myself. haha
BEAUTIFUL! I'm sure it's going to look great. You don't see very many people using pine cones as main decor. It will look great!
Part of me wants to stay home for Christmas so I can decorate but that won't be happening for a few years:) We are hopefully going to Oregon to surprise Leif's family! We'll probably be spending the next few years in Oregon for Christmas and Southern California for Thanksgiving.
I love the pine cone idea. If I were to decorate I would use lots of pine cones. I love how simple and beautiful they are.
