One of my favorite things about Mississippi so far is that I've had the opportunity to consistently be involved in a Bible study on base. Right now I am in a group of AF wives that meets on Monday nights. We are working through a study by Beth Moore on the book of Esther called "It's Tough Being A Woman". This study has been great so far! I find myself eagerly awaiting Monday nights so I can talk with the girls about what we read during the week. This study digs down to the heart of us as women and challenges the way we act and think.
I've always had a hard time studying Old Testament books as a devotional because sometimes they seem to be so hard to relate to. Beth's study really makes you understand how relevant this book is for today's Christian women. Now I'm reading the book of Esther with more intrigue and excitement than ever. I love it! It's an amazing story of God's timing and his great Master Plan.
With this study, we each do 5 short studies on our own every week that are guided with our workbook, then on Monday we come together to discuss everything and watch a video sermon by Beth Moore. This is the 2nd study I've done with this kind of layout and I've found that it works really well for me. I've always struggled with reading my Bible on a regular basis even though I know I should; I always seem to find something else I need to do or would rather do. This type of study helps to hold me accountable for keeping up with my nightly devotionals. It's amazing how different life becomes when you are reading your Bible and meeting with God daily. Things become easier and happier, and honestly I am a better person.
There is something amazing about being involved in a Bible study with people that you can relate to and trust, where you have the ability to be open and vulnerable about what you're struggling with and not be afraid to show that you are not perfect.
I encourage everyone to get involved in some kind of Bible study and to find the right kind of study that works for you. There are tons of different kinds (group, individual, video, workbook, devotional...) and I bet there is one on just about any topic that you are interested in or any area of life that you are struggling with.
