I've said this before but one of the best things (if not THE best thing!) about living here at Travis is being so close to my family. My dad and brother decided to come visit me for the weekend and it was awesome! I was still really not feeling well all weekend, with a bad cough and low energy, and having my family there really made it so much better. On Saturday it was really wet and rainy so we just got some pizza and watched a few movies. A relaxing day was exactly what we all needed! That night Seth also lost one of his last baby teeth which was totally a big deal! Even though Seth tried to play it cool like it wasn't :)
Sunday was a very productive around the house... and I did absolutely nothing! haha! Let me explain. There were a lot of "guy" chores that needed to be done since Jake being gone and I've just been putting them off, planning to get to them eventually. Well I didn't even have to ask but Seth and my dad got to work and did them ALL and more. By lunchtime on Sunday the yard had been pooper-scooped, mowed, edged, and fertilized! Seth did most of the work and I was amazed by his endless amount of energy. He and my dad also filled in the areas around the fence where Bailey had been digging which was a big help. It's so funny to see the difference between boys and girls because where I think that yardwork (other than planting pretty flowers) is a pain in the butt, Seth loved it! He thought it was so fun to mow and edge the lawn and he did a great job!
After the yard work was done and we had some lunch, Seth proceeded to run both my dogs around the neighborhood park and completely wore them out. He then even helped me give them both baths, which is definitely a two-person task. I haven't seen the dogs that happy in a while and they slept for the rest of the day after my family headed home.
I'm just so proud of my little brother and what an amazing young man he is becoming. I've never met a 9 yr old so eager to help when he was getting nothing in return. He's so awesome :) Thanks Seth and dad for all your help around the house and especially for the good company! I love you both so much!
OSC Masquerade!
On Friday night I went with a group of fabulous ladies from Jake's squadron to the TOSC (Travis Officer Spouse Club) silent auction masquerade. I'd been planning to go for weeks but being so sick last week I wasn't sure I'd be able to make it. After I saw the doctor on Friday and she said I was not contagious I decided I should just load up on the cold meds and get out of the house for a bit. I had already paid for the $25 ticket, bought a mask and a dress so it would've been a huge bummer not to go. I wasn't quite myself that night and had really low energy but I'm so glad I decided to go because we had a great time!

It got me...
- - - - Friday, March 23, 2012 - - - -
...the nasty, cold/flu bug got me! My past few days have been an awful blur of Nyquil, coughing fits, earaches, fever, body aches... YUCK! I am sick all the time with stomach pain but I had forgotten just how miserable it is just to have a "normal person sickness" like a bad cold. I went to my family doctor today to just get a check up and make sure I didn't have strep throat or bronchitis (which I seem to be prone to getting this time of year) and PRAISE GOD! its just a cold and so with lots of water and rest it should be gone shortly. I actually am feeling much better this afternoon and am hopeful that I might get to enjoy my weekend after all :) Happy Friday everyone! I pray you all are happy and healthy!!
The Deployment Camel
- - - - Monday, March 19, 2012 - - - -
If you can look at this picture and keep a straight face, you deserve an award.
I got a picture from Jake of this stuffed animal camel a few days ago and I am STILL laughing. On Friday it was the birthday of one of Jake's friends who is deployed with him and as a present all the guys gave him this "special" camel. I'm not sure what happened to it's poor face but something about that droopy eye and silly smirk makes it impossible for me to keep a straight face!
Jake thinks it's hilarious too and ever since Friday I've been getting a daily "beauty shot" of the camel in a different location with a corresponding quote. This is the one I got today with a quote of the camel saying "Just flying over Dubai. No big deal." Bahahahaha!
Maybe Jake and I have an odd sense of humor but for some reason this is just the most hilarious thing ever to us right now! I love that Jake can still manage to make me laugh from all the way across the world. Can't wait to see where Camie shows up next :)

St. Patrick's Day Fun!
- - - - Sunday, March 18, 2012 - - - -
Hope everyone had an awesome weekend! I've never really celebrated St. Patrick's Day before (other than wearing the necessary green to avoid being pinched) but this year there seemed to be a lot of events going on so I thought I'd join in the fun. Friday night Jake's squadron had an Irish-food potluck and it was a lot of fun! I'm so thankful to be part of a squadron that is so involved and puts on multiple weekly events to keep all of us connected and busy.
On Saturday night I went with some friends to dinner at BJs and then out to some St. Patty's celebrations. We had quite the experience while eating at BJs, the power went out on the entire city block and caused a lot of chaos in the restaurant! It was a crazy scene - people were leaving from their tables trying to skip out on their checks, a man dressed up as a leprechaun was skipping around the restaurant waving glow sticks (I couldn't make this up if I tried, haha!), and every meal order that had been put into the computers got lost and jumbled so the kitchen had no idea who ordered what. It was a mess, and we felt so bad for all of the workers! The power was only out for a few minutes but the restaurant had a terrible time trying to recover and people get mean when they are hungry! We were patient though and waited it out and finally two hours later we got the pizzas that we ordered. The manager comped our entire meal which was really nice, especially since it wasn't their fault that they lost power! In the end it just gave us more time to sit, chat, and enjoy our night and then we also got to go home with lots of extra, free pizza which was just as tasty at lunchtime today :)
